My Old Man

My six-word story in this t-shirt serves as a  play on words. The father, who is the jockey, races for the finish line but literally dies trying. I really liked this story because of the way Hemingway builds the majority of the story on the praise and positive feelings the boy has for his father, and then abruptly ends the story with the dad’s death. I was trying to assimilate the deep, almost perverse emotional cut Hemingway made with the father’s death and incorporate that feeling into my six word story.

P.S. I hate my graphic for this t-shirt!
