Indemnity Only: first half

Unlike many of the stories we read so far in the class, I think Sarah Paretsky’s main character, V.I. Warshawski, stands out from the bunch. Warshawki character is highly developed and easily relatable to the audience. In previous harboiled stories, the main characters were difficult to identify with. They were often head-strong, volatile men, fearless of danger and death. Warshawski is described like an average woman, except for the fact she is a detective. As a detective she is cautious, yet gets dirty when she needs to. I think Paretsky does a great characterizing Warshawski as a “real woman.”
