Historical event when this book was written…

Um…. THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT!!!

One assingment was to research what was something that occurred during this year of writting Cotton Comes to Harlem, and it was not hard to find the biggest historical event for Black American history: the Civil Rights Act was placed in the constitution!  This definitly plays a big role in the fact that firsy, bLacks would want to be getting out of the racist America, and whites wanted Blacks to go back to “work” in the South once they were granted their rights.  There are still plenty of moments of racism after the Civil Rights Act and it is even going still to today, but just the fact that these laws were finally passed is important to consider when reading this book.
