The Big Blowdown‘s first section reminds me greatly of the movie The Sandlot. There is a groups of kids deciding what they wantto do and they mention playing baseball, and then they run into another group of kids and have a spat. I really kept expecting someone to say “you’re killing me smalls!” I guess there was a bizarre phenomenon in the ’90s that caused everyone to want to make a story that is set in the ’40s-’50s!
Another movie made at the time that also seemed to fit was A Christmas Story, and again, I half expected one of the parents to say “you’ll shoot your eye out!” I hope the rest of this story proves to show how the ’40s were like, at least from a ’90s perspective.
