Picking Cotton

I knew what the Reverend was talking about after the first sentence in the book; the Back To Africa movement was most prominent back in the early 19th century, but it made an appearance again after the Reconstruction. This novel doesn’t seem to be about actually going to Africa though, more like the idea of it. So far, there are a lot of idealists in the plot and it seems to me that much of the conflict, though a lot of it is physical, is more a battle over the humanity of it all.
